David is firstly a family man, a man of nature and has travelled to over 80 countries. He loves nature and has hiked thousands of miles of backcountry, including above the base camp of Mt. Everest. He was one of the first registered trackers for Arizona Search and Rescue. He worked for the US Forest Service for 12 summers as a Hotshot firefighter fighting fires around the US and Canada, all the while carrying a Nikon SLR with a 50 mm 1.8 lens. David is a fine art watercolor painter and lover of all things artistic.

And yes, he is also one of the top 10 Wedding Photographers in the World by American Photo Magazine. He is also featured as part of the Masters of Wedding Photography video which both Jason and I watched in amazement how they mastered and created works of art.

David was here in Malaysia last month, and we took the opportunity to meet up with him at one of this workshops in KL.

It was great to meet the man in person. Oh, yeah.. he had a mishap while hiking just before coming to Malaysia. What happened was that he was rappelling down some caverns. And no, he fall. All was good and as they packed up the ropes and started on a leisurely hike back, that’s when the mishap happen.

Anyways, all was good

..and being the David that we all know, he did not let a wheelchair from slowing him down.

The day started of with David giving a short brief and of his methods. He then took us outdoors and did a impromptu survey and photoshoot.

He walked us through what he saw, what he was thinking as well as why he was thinking what he was thinking.

He will also take a sample photo, just to show exactly how he would like the photo end result would be.

This was really a hands on type of workshop.

He would personally direct our models of the day as well. And while doing so, explain his logic behind that particular pose, or direction.

See what I mean by “hand-on” workshop? David brought his personality into the workshop, which was fun!

Some behind the scene of the workshop. Basically David would explain the model position, pose and angle. And then explain how he is seeing the light. Then he would take a couple of shots as an example.

Even the models enjoyed themselves.

See what I mean. She is not smiling for the camera, but basically smiling to a joke cracked by either David or by a participant.

There were quite a number of participants, and only one David, and only one model. So obviously there were lots of distractions around. The key is to find your angle, your composition. In an actual day wedding, you can be sure to have more people involved blocking your view.

But David is always at hand to guide.

He was also there to demonstrate alternative angles.

And he took time to explain, and to give a little bit explanation when anyone of us were not very clear.

Very often he would just take a photo to demonstrate or to explain what his intention was, or what he was seeing that moment.

Now that’s only the outdoor session.

We then moved back indoors, to the cool inviting air conditioned lecture room.

Here, David whipped out his little bag of goodies and some lights to create fantastic light patterns and interesting illuminating methods.

Of course, the day would not be complete without a photo with the man himself.

The workshop was great! David was great. He kept us on our toes all the time. We learnt a great deal from him, on composition, angles and how to keep an eye out for interesting background, be it nature or man-made architectures. He also showed us how to use  everyday items to create interesting patterns and lights.

Thanks David! We hope you love Malaysia… Come back soon, and hope you get better!

KC and Anna are one of the most laid back couples we have ever dealt with. They were open to suggestions and went with anything we suggested. When we were tied up with other work, they understood and did not bother much about how, where, when or what we did. All that mattered to them was that we immortalised their wedding day.

When we first met up with them, both KC and Anna were such nice people and overflowing with happiness that it rubbed off on us. You know, the kind of people that actually lights up a party when they join in. We knew immediately that this is going be a real fun wedding to shoot.

And during their wedding day, the wedding flowed along smoothly with their wedding team working like a well oiled machine!

Anna’s room is no 5-Star suite, but it cosy, but one fantastic feature of her room is a wonderfully large window with diffused window panes that all photographers love, well, at least we do love them. The large window bathes her room with wonderful natural light that even a 5-star suite cannot compare to without it. The beautiful Anna was excited, and so was her family and friends as they prepared for the upcoming day.

Both of us loves natural light photography and strive to search for that perfect natural light in each of our assignments. The fantastic natural light which was showering into Anna’s room was so good that we were so excited to be creating beautiful images for them.

We had always loved natural light photography. It gives a more natural look to a photo and it draws you into the photo.

The proud parents putting on the veil. Look at how happy they are, especially Anna.

Their wedding was held at a church in town. Living here in Kuala Lumpur for nearly 20 years, I had not realise that there was this beautiful church right smack in the middle of the city. Probably would have driven pass it many times as well. It is indeed a majestic church. What a wonderful place for a wedding ceremony.

Beautiful right?

The little one getting ready. Handsome little fella isn’t he?

But here’s the man himself, getting some help to ensure that he looks the immaculate for the upcoming ceremony.

Dashing groom and his buddies.

And back to their stations, awaiting the arrival of the bride.

The excited bride arrives, eager and excited to set her eyes on her dashing groom waiting at the altar.

Here comes the bride!!

As the isle entourage made their way in, the atmosphere was suddenly electric. The guests clapped and cheered them on as they made their way to the waiting groom.

Just look at the proud father, leading her very happy daughter.

And finally, the groom receives her bride.

After a prayer..

.. the ceremony went on without a hitch.

All the while, there were smiles and you can feel the happiness and joy in the atmosphere as we went on photographing the ceremony.

The loving kiss, which seals the deal!

They made their way back on the isle with the upstanding guests cheering them on.

You see what we mean about the couple being happy? You can literally feel their happiness here.

And a quick group photo…

Before we wrapped for the day, with the couple insisting that we stayed on for the sumptuous buffet spread which they had prepared as lunch.

We wish both KC and Anna the very best in their future undertakings. It was an absolute joy to photograph you guys!

Bryan and Sherene is such a sweet and nice couple. They are warm, friendly and fun to be around. So it was no surprise that their wedding was a real joy to photograph.

This wedding saw one of the most fun encounters between the groom’s men and the bride’s maid. Both sides filled equally with fun. The bride had a bevy of pretty bride’s maids while the groom had his team of zany brothers, eager to take on the challenges which awaits them. The result was a great fun time and a great retrieval of the bride.

By the way, there’s a slideshow after the photos. So do continue all the way to the bottom ya! :)

As you can see in the following photos, our cameras love them as both Bryan and Sherene are naturals in front of the camera and this made our job so much easier.

The day started early in the morning as usual. The cheerful bride was extremely excited while the she prepares for the day ahead.

And.. after much preparation..

… they were all set and ready!!

On the groom’s side….

The groom and his brother’s were all set to face the fury of the bride’s maids.

This was just before all the fun started. All prim and proper!

And this was during the games. A bunch of fun and very sporting fellows.

I could not help myself from laughing during the games. They were really into it.

After much fun, laughter, screams and painted faces… the groom left with the bride!

And made their way back to the groom’s place.

And before they called it a day to prepare for the dinner reception, the obligatory bridal bouquet toss!!

Any guess which one of the beautiful bride’s maids got the bouquet?

And one final photo … or two… with the bride’s maids and ..

the brothers.

One exciting and fun wedding this was. And thanks for having us as your photographers. We wish you all the best!

Oh.. and do check out the slideshow we prepared for them for their dinner reception.

Joseph and Michelle, two wonderful individuals who recently combined they explosive personalities into one as bride and groom. And together the equally zany personalities of their wedding entourage and families, resulted in an unforgettable wedding ceremony.

But they were modest people, who are real naturals in front of the camera. Here are a few photos from the wedding day.

We wish Joseph and Michelle all the best!

And we hope you enjoyed the quick showcase of our photos from the wedding just as much as we enjoyed taking it :)

Last but not least, do enjoy the same day edit slideshow as well :)

It was a glorious morning. I walked out of my house to be greeted by morning dew covered leaves, flowers, cars and damp road. Our drive to the park was uneventful. The only exciting part was when we missed the newly opened flyover and had to take an alternative route.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/979d7967.jpg?t=1283062412

The park was beautiful. Neat, clean and just the occasional empty bottles and cups lying around because of one or two irresponsible people. Other than that, there were quite a number of people living the healthy lifestyle.

We wasted no time trying to catch the morning light, but the sun played hide and seek throughout the morning. This was one of the first few RM388 Portraits Promotion sessions.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/0f653058.jpg?t=1283062423

The park was filled with people from all walks of life. Most of them came with their kids… and some with their doggies.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/91b68c1e.jpg?t=1283062422

It was indeed a challenge to frame the subject and the background without the crowd.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/75d615c9.jpg?t=1283062783

but we managed anyways. Most of them were courteous enough to move out of the way or wait for us to click. Thanks guys :)

When the sun become a little bit too overwhelming to stay out in the park, we moved indoors. A quick of change of clothes later, we were back in action!

It was a quick and fun photoshoot. It was still morning when the photoshoot concluded, so to end the photoshoot…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/5421a2d1.jpg?t=1283063126

.. a nice hearty breakfast…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/44f73762.jpg?t=1283063126

.. and a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

What a great Sunday morning! Met up with two wonderful people, one of whom is Jason’s long lost colleague, while the other is someone from my kampung! Talk about coincidence! Plus, we had a nice morning walk around the park (while photoshooting) and finally a nice healthy breakfast. And we were back home before the morning was over!

Ahhh… all Sunday mornings should be like this :)
