Recently we had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Nadia Heng for Today’s Choices Magazine. She was on the cover!!

Nadia is such a wonderful person to be with. For the lack of a better description, she lights up the room simply by walking into it. She is that brilliant! She is easy to talk to, easy going and fun. None of those primadonna syndrome which some may choose to exhibit.

Nadia is a former Miss Malaysia-World 2010/2011 and is currently Hypp TV Host. She is also XIXILI’s ambassador and Asian Shark Conservation ambassador. Oh.. and should you need an emcee, Nadia’s your girl as she too is an awesome emcee.

The photoshoot location was at Saujana Hotel just off Subang Airport Road. Our first location was at Senja Restaurant. Although named in Malay, Senja is actually serves fine Italian cuisines. The aroma of the wood fire really gets your appetite going. Anyways, back to the shoot.

The restaurant is flooded with light which makes for wonderful natural light shots.

But of course we snuck in a shot or two with creative lighting.

Very interesting lighting we had that day.

The restaurant were kind enough to bear with us while we move some tables and chairs to make way for better angles.

We had load of fun photographing Nadia. As you can see from the photos, the team were enjoying themselves.

Nadia was always on hand to review, comment and improve on the photos!

See what I mean? At each location, and each set, Nadia makes sure that everything is up to par, especially on her end.. and to a certain extend, help us improve the photos.

Oh… there was an awkward but extremely hilarious moment. Not gonna post it up here. But you can, by all means, ask us :)

And last but not least.. here’s a quick group photo before we waved goodbye and got caught in the rain trying to get back to our parked cars :S

It’s been a while since we did this cover, but better late than never :)

Azlan Iskandar is known amongst many of being the coolest squash player around. He oozes sophistication on and off the courts, even during a photoshoot!

We had the amazing opportunity to photograph Azlan at the equally amazing rotating restaurant at KL Tower, Atmosphere 360.

The shots were taken for Today’s Choices magazine. Do check them out.

Thanks to the team from VMA who made all the necessary arrangement, making the shoot possible.

It was an interesting shoot! It was also a very interesting day as well, there were base jumpers doing their thing from the top of the tower!

It would be very interesting to be able to photograph these jumpers. Maybe we shall arrange something similar? Let’s see how it goes. In the mean time, do stay tune for updates from the latest photoshoot for Today’s Choices as well as an update from the recent trip to Pangkor and Penang!

Both Zack Arias and Joe McNally are both world class photographers in their own field.

Zack is an excellent photographer who is based in Atlanta. He specialises in the music industry and currently editorial work and advertising. His style and approach is a blend of simplicity, boldness, classic and true. His greatest talent and ability is to mix with the various walks of life as well as the ability to relax nervous subjects.

He is also a great advocate of “master your equipment first”. Basically, what he means is, instead of buying new cameras, lenses and other accessories, make sure you fully understand and master your current equipment first, or your skills have surpassed your equipment before thinking about that brand spanking new camera/lens which was just announced. :)

Anyways, here’s a little video clip of Zack with Fuji’s xPro in India.

Joe is the veteran of the two. Having 30+ years of experience under his belt, Joe works with various organisations including National Geographic, Life Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Time, Fortune and Business Week. His is also the author for The Moment it Clicks, Hotshoe Diaries and Sketching Light. Joe’s well known series is the Faces of Ground Zero – Portraits of the Heroes of September 11th. Its a collection of portrait photos taken shortly after 911.

American Photo magazine described Joe as “perhaps the most versatile photojournalist” and is listed as one of the most important people in photography. He is recognised and has been awarded numerous awards by World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, Photo District News, American Photo and many more.

Here’s a youtube video of Joe with the new Nikon D4.

It was a great opportunity to have met Zack and Joe, and to learn from them.

It was dark when we loaded up our gears into the car. We were scheduled to do a photoshoot at a very exclusive hotel up in the hills. And with only a couple of hours open for us to work our magic, we wanted to ensure that we make full use of those couple of hours.

We stopped by McDonald’s to have a nice hearty breakfast. We would not be able to have anything else until lunch.

And it was still dark out when we continued our journey up north.

And when light came, the skies got a little gloomy. Which is a good thing actually. Not too hot. :) We at FingerOnShutter do not like the heat. hahaha. We prefer the cold.

After the long straight comfortable road of the highway, we ventured into the narrower and with much more twists and turn roads up to Cameron Highlands.

Finally after about.. erm.. i am not sure actually.. but about 3-4 hours later, we arrived at the exclusive hotel. Very nice actually. And the nice cool weather makes sure that we do not have to wring our face towels……

.. like this. It was one of the most comfortable shoots ever for us. Remember, we love the cold. The colder the better :)

Here we see the groom himself taking up his trusty Canon to photograph his wife getting ready.

The groom… from fishingcow.blogspot.com squeezing between the chair and wall for his angle.

He is an avid photographer as well. He was rather busy with his camera that day.

No photos please. Interesting t-shirt. Fortunately what he wears does not relate directly to how he thinks. He’s not very camera shy.

Somehow I like the effect of this photo. 24mm @ f1.8 gives a unique and interesting view and bokeh.

The hotel had plenty of place for us to hang out while waiting for the bride to get ready.

Then it was time to get down and serious and proceed with the photoshoot.

Hmmm.. I wonder what these two are trying to do.

We continued our photoshoot to one of the tea plantations. That’s Jason at the top of the hill.

That’s me trying CLS on the couple.

This is Ming… our make up artist for the day :)

After the whole day of driving and photoshooting, we decided to call it a day and proceeded up to the top of the hill.

Oh.. sorry. We forgot that we had this for our quick lunch. Actually we wanted to have something big. But due to time constraints, we decided to have something quick, but nice.

We proceeded to head to the night market to pick up some vegetables, corns and other stuff not usually or readily available in KL. On the way…

3f4e866b.jpg picture by shutterfingers

We encountered this very long queue of cars, which was about 1-2km long queueing up to the night market. This is crazy! But it was not that bad. We reached the night market about 10-15 minutes later. What was worse was the parking. Oh… my. Our lucky stars must be shining upon us that moment as a car was just reversing out of a park as we were passing by. *phew*

We stayed the night.

It was kind of a cosy place. This photo was taken early the next morning. Nice sun, cooling weather. Ahhh…. bliss.

109d4fd5.jpg picture by shutterfingers

After a nice hearty breakfast, we packed, and continued photoshooting the bride and groom.

8d04e9a1.jpg picture by shutterfingers

Had nice little quick lunch at Mary Brown and a little web surfing, and we were headed back to KL!

It was a fun trip. A successful photoshoot. And a refreshing break from the city. We are currently working on some of the photos from the photoshoot. We will be uploading them very soon. So check back often ok?

Cheerio!

Oh.. by the way, some of the photos here are taken by HTC Legend using the ‘Lomo’ effect camera application :)
